The name Visnjan probably comes from the Latin word Vicinianus which means nearby because in the past Visnjan was the closest property of Porech in Istria. The oldest written document in which his name is mentioned is the act by which the boundaries of the estate of Sv. Maura from 1003Copper earrings and needles from the Bronze Age were found in the area of the surrounding village of Strpachichi, 1 km from Visnjan. Remains from that period exist on the Montemez hill near Visnjan, and the name in Celtic means beautiful hill. West of Visnjan was the ancient settlement of Dilian in antiquity and the Middle Ages with the monastery and church of St. Mihovil from the 11th century. Due to the importance of the site, research began at the international level. The inhabitants of Visnjan are known as very diligent people who have managed to preserve their authenticity to this day and therefore can offer a rich range of traditional Istrian dishes, quality wines from renowned producers, olive oil and many other traditional and organic products. On your departure, don't forget to bring a unique, original and handmade souvenir of local craftsmen so that you can always remember all the beautiful moments you appreciated in Visnjan.

The locals here are authentic and very friendly. During my visit, I got to experience traditional Istrian culture in terms of food, festivals, and talent of the locals. I tried the traditional meals which I loved and bought a handmade souvenir from the local craftsmen.

Visiting the west of Vishnjan, I learned about the ancient settlement of Dillan in antiquity and the middle ages. I also toured the monastery and church of St. Mihovil from the 11th century. It was a great experience and learned a lot about the culture and history of the people.

We visited the wineries and vineyards recommended by the guides and we absolutely loved the experience at the place. We enjoyed the wonderful history and farms with the vines and the processing of the wines too. Unforgettable moments as we had wine tasting of the different varieties and also had to get some for later on.
