Trsteno is a small coastal village located about 20 km north of Dubrovnik. The local and foreign population is known for its unique natural beauty, rich vegetation and the well-known Arboretum.Looking at numerous archaeological sites, we can conclude that Trsteno was founded in the 5th century. At the beginning of the 14th century, Trsteno became part of the former powerful Republic of Ragusa. Many members of the rich Dubrovnik nobility were enchanted by the natural beauties of Trsteno and started building their luxurious summer houses and villas right here. The largest and most famous was the one built by the Guchetich-Gozze family, and it is well preserved today.Speaking of natural beauties we must mention the famous Arboretum. Namely, in the first half of the 20th century, the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts founded the Trsteno Arboretum. It is the only existing botanical object of its kind in Croatia. Covering an area of over 60 hectares, it consists of a Gothic-Renaissance park with a summer residence from the 15th century and a neo-romantic park from the 19th century. Here you can see a magnificent baroque fountain depicting the Roman god Neptune and nymphs. The arboretum also contains historic olive trees and natural vegetation of evergreen species of Mediterranean trees, as well as over 300 different exotic plants brought from all over the world. Also, if you want to hide away from the city crowds and stay in peace and quiet, here in Trsteno we have many private accommodation and apartments. Beautiful beaches and clear blue sea attract new tourists to Trsteno every season, making it a peaceful summer destination from early spring to late autumn.

This location has a picturesque ambiance with beautiful villas, luxury apartments, and summer houses like that built by the Guchetich-Gozze family. I enjoyed vacationing at one of the best holiday houses which had a direct and open view of the beautiful waters.

The private accommodation units in Trsteno were like answered prayer to me because they were located far from the crowds of people therefore a quiet and peaceful environment. The Trsteno Arboretum is charming with its beauty of the natural vegetation. I was thrilled to learn from our able tour guide that the Arboretum had parks in it, the Gothic Renaissance Park and the neo romantic park. The baroque fountain was one of a kind.
