The island of Loshinj and its two main villages, Mali Losinj and Veli Loshinj, are extremely popular holiday destinations combining beach, culture and mountains. The island is 31 km long and is separated from the island of Cres by a narrow canal. Mali Loshinj is a larger town and was an important shipbuilding center, near the beautiful bay of Cikat, covered with dense pine forest, Veli Lošinj is smaller and is notable for its beautiful baroque houses that surround it. From Lošinj there are ferries to the island of Susak, famous for diving.Near Lošinj are the sandy island of Susak, the flower island of Ilovik and the rocky island of Unije and smaller islands. The Loshinj Culinary Festival should be on the menu of every gourmet at the beginning of May. About 20 local restaurants participate in displaying local specialties through tastings, competitions, gastronomic walks and seminars. The best way to reach the northern Adriatic is to reach the island by passenger boat from Rijeka to Cres and Mali Loshinj or by numerous ferries from Pula and Cres.
