The Church of St. Thomas is located 4 kilometers north of the city of Rovinj, along the old railway line that led from Rovinj to the small town of Kanfanar.
In the 16th century, a major renovation took place, in which it completely changed its original form. During the latest research of the church, experts found many fragments dating from ancient Romanesque architectural plastic, as well as parts of church furniture - pilasters of the partition for the sanctuary, pillars with capitals, etc.
According to the figures discovered so far and based on an analysis of the construction process and research findings, it can be stated that the church was built in the late 8th or early 9th century. Therefore, the church of St. Thomas is a wonderful example of sacral architecture from the Carolina period in Istria.
