Rakalj is a small town located on the west coast of the bay Rasha not far from Pula in Istria. It was first mentioned back in 1190, and then it was known for its traditional Istrian ceramics, a tradition that has been revived today for tourist purposes. Rakalj is attractive because of its cultural and historical sights (baroque parish church built in the 18th century, the ruins of the castle Rakalj), as well as ethnographic collections located in the birthplace of scholars and writers Mijo Mirkovic (Mate Balota). Stari Rakalj, is located closer to the sea on a small hill by the beautiful bay of Raska. The location and surroundings are rich in lush vegetation and playful wildlife and as such are suitable for rural tourism, hunting and hiking. Rakalj offers a beautiful picturesque landscape, clear sea, warm sun and silence. Many beautiful beaches are hidden from view, providing a feeling of freedom and privacy.
