The town of Legrad is located at the mouth of the Mura River, which flows into the Drava, right next to the Hungarian border, and was miraculously spared the great currents of modern civilization. Legrad has been mentioned since 1384 as a settlement in Medjimurje. Centuries of rich history have left their traces, so be sure to visit the baroque church of the Holy Trinity, the baroque square with crucifixes ("saws") and an inn from the 18th century. There is also Novi Zrin, a fortress built by the noble Zrinski family intended for defense against the Turks.Legrad is special in something else, it is here that the two beautiful rivers Mura and Drava meet, creating perhaps the last natural meander in its winding course. This makes them an ideal habitat for the rare plant and animal species that have found their refuge here. Veliki Pazhut is an ornithological reserve at the mouth of a beautiful river that attracts the attention of many nature lovers. In the summer months, Legrad offers a refreshing swim in the Drava River and the nearby Shoderica Lake.
