Lupoglav is a small Istrian town located at the crossroads where the route leading to the center of the peninsula separates from the Trieste - Rijeka route.Today it is the seat of the municipality that stretches all the way to the slopes of Uchka and Chicharija and south to Boljunsko polje. The settlement is full of newer detached houses, located around the road, but without the recognizable vertical of the bell tower that would immediately warn us elsewhere in Istria of the center of the settlement. How's that? In order to understand the current situation, it is necessary to look up at the steep slopes of Chicharija and look for the hill on which the Mahrenfels castle, the seat of the Lupoglav estate, stood in the middle of the 17th century. This castle was located about 1.5 km east of today's settlement.
