Betina

The town of Betina on the island of Murter is often mentioned as one of the most beautiful towns in the entire Adriatic. This is also due to its location on a small hill, on top of which is the church of St. Francis of Assisi. From the church descends a series of small streets with typical stone houses. This area has been inhabited since prehistoric Illyrian times, and there are numerous Roman remains. Betina was first mentioned in 1423, when 15 people already lived here in eight houses. Betina is a place of a long shipbuilding tradition, which has its roots in the 18th century. A special feature is the Betina gajeta, a wooden boat with a sail, 5-8 meters long and 2-2.5 meters wide. The Betina Wooden Shipbuilding Museum also testifies to this tradition. Today, Betina is a tourist destination with numerous beaches and a rich gastronomic and cultural offer. The beaches are well equipped and the sea is clean. For lovers of active holidays, there are schools for sailing and diving, and hiking trails - the view from the surrounding hills of the town and the surrounding islands will not leave anyone indifferent.
