Vrlika is a small town in the interior of Split-Dalmatia County. The nearest major cities are Sinj, Knin and Drnis. The oldest evidence of human life in this region dates back to 30,000 BC. During the Bronze Age, between 1900 and 1600 BC. In Christ, in the area of the municipality of Vrlika, there was a so-called Cetina culture.Archaeologists have found ancient graves, a sword from the Bronze Age and other smaller objects dating from that period. These findings have clearly shown that in the past this land was densely populated. In 1406, King Ladislav of Naples gave the fortress Prozor, at that time Castrum Werhlychky to the Croatian nobleman Hrvoje Vukchich. During the medieval period, Vrlika, along with the rest of the Balkans, experienced invasion and subsequent occupation by the Ottoman Empire. During the Ottoman rule, the local population of Vrlika was forced to convert to Islam or leave. Many native settlers from Vrlika traveled to the island of Olib in the Adriatic Sea off the Croatian coast.
