Velebit Nature Park

Velebit is another nature park in this area and in 1978 it was included in the World Biosphere Reserve Network (Man and the Biosphere Program) (UNESCO) as a world of silence and freshness.Within the nature park there are a number of protected localities: 2 national parks (Northern Velebit, Northern Velebit National Park includes several previously protected areas - strict nature reserve Hajdučki and Rožanski kukovi, botanical reserve Visibaba and botanical reserve Zavizhan-Balinovac-Velika kosa, within which finds the famous Velebit Botanical Garden, declared a monument of landscape architecture.More than 300 caves have been discovered in the Northern Velebit National Park, the most important of which are the Cerovachka Cave and Luka Cave, and in the past this area was inhabited by a large number of people who left traces in numerous ruins of stables, sacral buildings and cultural monuments. Today, the area has remained a witness to the past times, customs and culture of the inhabitants of this mysterious place.Paklenica National Park stretches on the southern slopes of the Velebit massif, and the most attractive features are the monumental canyon of Velika and Mala Paklenica, whose vertical cliffs over 400 m high have made Paklenica a world-famous climbing center.
