Kalnik is located on the border of Zagorje, Prigorje and Podravina, about 80 km from Zagreb. Here visitors are greeted by a picturesque forest world, educational trail and the remains of two old forts. The smaller of them is located at the top of Mali Kalnik, and the larger on Veliki Kalnik. Kalnik was once even proclaimed a royal palace, during the reign of King Sigismund, whose wife Barbara of Celje, also known in legends as the "Black Queen", often came here.
