Drava sands

The town of Djurdjevac, located in northern Croatia, hides an interesting natural phenomenon - an area the size of 40 football fields covered with sand! Of course, one cannot expect to see the real Sahara desert, but one can see the so-called “Djurdjevac sands” - an area of ​​partially stabilized sand dunes in the eastern part of the town of Djurdjevac. This barren soil, also known as Bloody Sand or "Croatian Sahara", was declared a special botanical and natural reserve in 1963 with the intention of preserving a large number of endemic species. It is also home to 300 species of butterflies, as well as a series of flowers and plants marked in the desert.In the enclosure you can see and meet four playful camels named Djurdjica, Dina, Tomica and Romeo, along with Shetland ponies and a species of goat from North Africa, with rather unusual horns. Although it is not allowed to ride camels, they are very friendly. Cuddling and feeding are the main attractions, especially for children.
