The island of Chiovo is the largest island in the Trogir archipelago and is a popular resort, located near the mainland and Split airport. Although an island, Chiovo is actually connected to the mainland by a modern bridge (opened in 2018). The main places to stay on Chiovo are Slatine , Okrug Donji and Okrug Gornji and Arbanija. The main attraction of Chiovo is its convenience as a base for exploring the wider area and the vicinity of Split Airport. There are a variety of beach resorts from the hectic and more commercialized main beach resort of Okrug Gornji to the quieter, more residential neighbor of Okrug Donji. At the other end of the island there are quieter places like Slatine which have beautiful parts of the beach, and as you continue towards the end of the island, there are more untouched beaches like the beautiful Kava beach. With good water taxi lines from Slatine and other places on Chiovo to Trogir and Split's old towns, you can avoid traveling by car. Chiovo is also a historically interesting place. It has been inhabited since prehistoric times and has a rich cultural heritage. It is also a great place for squid fishing, and anglers will often be spotted outside in the evening on their small boats - every year there is even a squid fishing festival! Chiovo is an excellent base, close to the airport, for exploring the wider area and its national parks. It is worth noting that there are buses to and from the island that run regularly during the summer months.
