The Green Cave

For all lovers of nature, the small island of Ravnik, situated across from the southern coast of the island of Vis, has a particularly lovely site to offer. Its Green Cave, a beauty of untouched nature, has been a protected natural landmark since 1967. It gets its name from the greenish light created when the sunlight, coming through the opening in the cave’s dome, hits the bottom of the sea covered with green algae.

There are two entrances to this cave, wide enough for smaller boats to pass through, and if you’re coming with a motor boat you will have to shut it down for the duration of your visit. This is mandatory since the cave is a home for many birds who have found shelter there. Swimming is allowed, though visits are restricted to the duration of ten minutes per boat. Diving is allowed, too, though it will need to be arranged beforehand.
