Naval Park is the first city park in Pula and was created in 1863. Once in the center of the park stood a tall marble pillar in honor of Duke Maximilian, the supreme commander of the navy and the brother of Emperor Franz Joseph I. In 1919, the Italian government transferred the pillar to Venice. The plants planted in the park were delivered by ships from all over the world, and even today about 40 species grow in it.
