Built as a part of the Austro-Hungarian defence system in Istria, intended to protect the war port Pula and the Fazhana Channel, Fort Caluzzi served as a battery with four defence mortars and two coastal guns.

It was built 38 meters above sea level, from stone blocks from the Istrian quarries. The basement was used for storage and the ground level served as barracks.

Caluzzi’s defence system consisted of an embankment, a ditch hollowed out in rock, a fortification wall and wire fence. While it’s not possible to go inside the fort, the outdoor structure can be explored at any time, free of charge.
