Built in 1903, Fort Benedetto was a vital part of the Austro-Hungarian fortification system, erected along the Istrian coast and designed to defend the war port Pula and the Fazhana channel.

It served as a battery with two cannons for the Fort Forno, and it was surrounded by a defence ditch. The lower part of the fort is located below ground level, with staircases leading to the top that served as a terrace.

From 1945 to 1991 the fort was used as an ammunition storage. It remains in good condition, and though the interior is closed for public the outdoor can be visited at any time.
