This most famous Dubrovnik church was built in honor of the patron saint of the city of Dubrovnik - St. Blaise, who, according to legend, informed the Senate about the intention of the Venetians to attack the city and prepare the population of Dubrovnik for defense. After the intention of the Venetians was defeated, the people of Dubrovnik chose Saint Blaise as their main protector. On the main altar of this church there is a statue of Saint Blaise holding a model of Dubrovnik. The feast of St. Blaise is also held in his honor in February, which makes Dubrovnik an off-season destination.
