Tkalciceva street is Zagreb main hub for cafes, restaurants and casual nightlife. Also known as Tkalcha, it features dozens of places where you will find something to your liking.

Tkalchicheva is filled with life. Numerous boutiques, traditional shops, restaurants, cafes and outdoor events will fill your day.

Once it was a stream that divided two oldest Zagreb settlements, Gradec and Kaptol. Because of contamination by all the shops, the stream was diverted.

In the period 1899 to 1941, almost every house in Tkalciceva street was a brothel. Because it is in the centre, all windows had to have opaque glass and red lanterns. For this reason, Zagreb was the first city in Europe with the proper red light district.

Today Tkalciceva Street continues its century-old tradition of Zagreb craftsmen and traders and is one of the most attractive streets in the city.

Walking down Tkalchichera Street, we visited the souvenir shops that sell rugs, carpets, and pottery. We also bought some local food items from the small vendors stationed on the street. We then took a ride in the traditional cabs—the carriages pulled by horses. In these cabs, we toured the historical places nearby and took lots of pictures. It was an amazing experience to see places so old, yet still have their charm intact.
