Great Bridge

In addition to the Little Bridge (Mali most), the lakes of the Mljet National Park have their own Great Bridge (Veliki Most), the name for the point where the Big Lake (Veliko jezero) flows into with the open sea.

There is a small pedestrian bridge connecting the two banks of the canal. The original Great Bridge was demolished in 1958, and in 2016 a new one was built in its place. In the past, Benedictine monks built a flour mill on this site and used the sea current to run the mill wheels.

Until 1958, this strait was narrow and shallow, with strong sea currents alternating every six hours.
