This monastery was founded by the decree of Pope Sixtus IV.

It is a simple one-storey building with a U-shaped ground plan and the Church of the Visitation next to it, connected via the sacristy and a passageway on the southern side of the monastery.

The church itself was built in the late-Gothic style and completed in 1477. It was given a Baroque makeover in 1729 when its nave was extended, followed by the building of a new bell tower in 1732.

The Franciscan monks ran a hospital and a pharmacy in the monastery, and between the end of the 18th and the middle of the 19th centuries the building housed a grammar school.

The monastery’s library is the oldest preserved library in Istria and contains incunabula and twenty two manuscripts. Along with the rest of the sacred inventory of the Church it has been designated as cultural heritage.
