Fort Paravia West

While most of the forts in the Barbariga defence district (a part of a larger Austro-Hungarian defence system in Istria) were built to defend from attacks coming from the sea, the Paravia West fort was built to defend the area from any possible attacks from land.

The ditch surrounding it was dug in stone and the defensive embankment was made of both stone and soil. Its weapon system consisted of artillery guns.

The fort contained storage space, shelter space and housing for soldiers, distributed over its two level structure. Built in 1906, it is perched at fifty five meters above sea level.
