Much like Paravia West, Fort Paravia East (also known as Old Fort Barbariga; a part of the Austro-Hungarian defence system in Istria) was built to defend the area from land attacks. Its was built as a two-level structure with shelters and storage spaces and a central section for housing soldiers. Much like with other Barbariga forts its defence ditch was carved in solid rock. It is well preserved and can be visited at any time of day, free of charge.
