Only ten kilometers from Porech, in the immediate vicinity of the magnificent Lim Fjord in Istria, on a hill lies the small town of Vrsar, whose name dates back to the past.Namely, the ancient Mediterranean sailors, sailing along the western coast of Istria, took drinking water from a spring on the coast between Funtana and Vrsar, and thus the name Ursaria was created. In the Middle Ages, when the Slavs began to inhabit the territory, they changed the original name in their own way and got the modern name of the city which is still used today - Vrsar.Since his view reaches all the way to the coast, it was logical for Vrsar to be built in the form of a fortress with large defensive walls. Today, only parts of this solid fortification system built in the 12th century have been preserved, but still, you must visit this fortress-castle. The most famous Italian lover, Cassanova, visited Vrsar twice and recorded his experiences and pastime in his invaluable memoirs.
