The famous Town Lodge is located on the main square of the town of Cres - Frane Petrić Square. The town lodge together with the pillar of shame has been preserved to this day in its original form, and was first mentioned in the middle of the 16th century. According to historical documents, it is believed that Cres had another lodge, which was located near the church of St. Mary. Today’s lodge with a pillar of shame has been extremely significant in history. Trade took place there, contracts were made, proclamations were read and criminals were tried. Once the offender was found guilty, he would be tied to a pole of shame so that the people could shoot and condemn him.
