About 350 meters from the train station to the east we will come to the left of an old building surrounded by a high stone wall. It is not old Mahrenfels but a country castle of the noble family Brigido, was on a hill.
It was an ideal model of the estate of that time, and the Istrian landowners sent their heirs there to learn practical jobs related to property management, agriculture and the rural economy, so that one day they themselves would become capable managers. Counts Brigido, on the other hand, are remembered for their brutal treatment of their subjects, who were forced to revolt, such as in 1847.
