The oldest beach on the island of Korchula, Banje has been a favourite of locals since the beginning of the 20th century. It nests in the city landscape of old houses mixed with luxury hotels, near the house where the famous explorer Marco Polo is said to have been born. The terrain of this beach comes in various shapes: on one side it is covered with pebbles and flanked by the shallow sea on one side and a small promenade on the other, with concrete sections scattered about. There is no natural shade on the pebbled part of the beach, but the promenade is bordered by both evergreen and perennial trees and will provide a lovely shade when you want to take a break from sunbathing. All the cafes and restaurants are in the nearest possible vicinity here, so you won’t have to walk far for lunch or coffee break. And whether you’re swimming, sunbathing or relaxing in the shade over cool drinks you’ll be enjoying a lovely view of the charming coastline of the town of Korchula.
