The founder of the Zagreb diocese and cathedral was King Ladislav in 1094, but the appearance of the first cathedral is not known because the new one is still known from documents from the 13th century built on the foundations of the first cathedral. Throughout its long history, the cathedral has been damaged several times in various wars, mostly in the war with the Tatars, where it was rebuilt and changed its appearance. Until Zagreb was hit by an earthquake in 1880, when the cathedral needed a thorough renovation, where, according to Hermann Bolle, it gets its current look in the neo-Gothic style. Inside the cathedral, which hides a great history and numerous relics, are the remains of numerous Croatian martyrs, great men and archbishops.
