The Monk Seal Cave

While the Blue Cave is a popular tourist site, the island of Bishevo has another gem of protected nature to show you. The Monk Seal Cave is located on the southern side of the island, and has a very interesting entrance. It is over 20 meters high and 14 meters wide, but grows more narrow the further you go into the cave. By the time you reach the end - and the cave is 160 long - you will have reached a small beach accessible only by a small boat.

The importance of this cave is the fact that is used to be the habitat of the Mediterranean monk seal (which is how it got its name). This adorable sea creature was once a frequent visitor of the Adriatic sea, but has since been brought to near extinction. Hopefully, some day, The Monk Seal Cave will once again become its safe nesting place.
