Two long-lost pearls that archaeologists called Dragonera North and Dragonera South were discovered during archaeological excavations between 2003 and 2004. Dragonera North is a somewhat less well-preserved building, built around the 1st century BC, lasting until the 7th century. when it was destroyed by fire. This former villa (Villa maritima) with a preserved part of the olive processing plant and later added a closed kiln was destroyed by the sea, while limestone was built over the ruins in the 19th and 20th centuries, further devastating the ancient ruins Much more is known about Dragonera South, and when writing about Dragonera in 537-538, the Roman prefect Cassiodorus called the fairies two pearls because of their splendor and beauty.
