The old stone town is located on a hill, above a beautiful sea bay and the mouth of the river Richina (Suha Richine), or at the exit of the Vinodol valley towards the sea. It was built by the wealthy princes of Krk when they acquired Modrush and Vinodol in 1225 with a royal grant.
The solid stone houses located in the town are closely adjacent to each other, and the narrow streets lead to the parish church of Sv. Filip i Jakov, the former table church of the Diocese of Modrush or Krbava, with a rich interior and a high white recognizable bell tower.
