During Austro-Hungarian Monarchy , a total of 26 fortifications were built as part of the outer ring to defend the city.
Great effort has been made to connect and complete the fortifications, fortunately they were never used to repel attacks so they have preserved their original 19th century form. The fort was named after the Austrian officer who led it, and was home to the scariest cannon of the time, a 305mm howitzer. Nowadays, many cultural events take place in and around the fort, and the most famous are the popular electronic music parties.
