On the rough massif of Velebit, Paklenica National Park offers numerous outdoor opportunities for hiking, climbing and other sports. A UNESCO biological reserve, the park was established to protect the diverse flora and fauna, as well as the mountain itself. There are many species of birds and colonies in the park, making it a paradise for bird watchers, and occasionally you can meet wild animals like bears and wolves. The administrative office is located in Starigrad and provides everything you need for a safe visit, including maps and other useful information. The entrance to the park is in Marasovići, a little further north. Try to visit the park during spring or autumn when the vegetation is especially green and lush.
