Over the centuries, this magnificent crimson-red palace has become a symbol of Vodnjan. Throughout its history it had many functions (it was a Venetian loggia, a barley warehouse, a platform, an archive, a prison and a theater), and today it is the center of the Italian community in Vodnjan. The building on its façade shows a preserved clock from 1877. On the first floor there is an extensive, rich library, while in the lobby there is a permanent collection "Coats of arms of the rector and important Vodnjan families".
