The castle is located in Zrinski Park, not far from the central town square, and is the largest fortress in Medjimurje County. It was built of hewn stone and red brick, and through more than 7 centuries of history has undergone several reconstructions. Today it has been partially restored. The main palace of the castle houses the Medjimurje County Museum, the largest museum in the county, and its atrium is also used as an open-air theater during the summer months. The place was the scene of the Zrinski-Frankopan conspiracy, a significant event in the history of Croatia.
