Na sjevernom rubu povijesne jezgre Varaždina nalazi se dvorac Stari grad koji je okopan od grada i okružen bedemima. Na bedemima su se nekada nalazili topovi, a zidovi su mjestimično debeli i do 2,5 m. Unutar Starog grada nalazi se renesansna aristokratska palača. Brojni vlasnici su se promijenili, prilagođavajući ga svojim potrebama i željama, a neprestano se gradi i nadograđuje od 13. do 19. stoljeća. Danas se Gradski muzej Varaždin nalazi u cijelom Starom gradu. Gradski muzej Varaždin osnovan je na poticaj Muzejskog društva Varaždin, a svečano je otvoren za posjetitelje 1925. godine, u samo nekoliko soba Starog grada. Izvorna izložba sastojala se od predmeta koji su pristizali u novootvoreni muzej, uglavnom kao donacije poznatih varaždinskih obitelji.

Nice furnished castle with a museum that we had the opportunity to have a tour and love it. A walk around the fortress was also refreshing and enjoyed our trip to the castle.

I was amazed by clean and amazing water near the Castle old Town. A good place well conserved.

The architectural features of this castle charmed me. Its old nature is still intact, it clearly shows the kind of quality work and effort that was put during its construction. There are a lot of team building games to take part in.
