The history of this little church is everything but dull.
Dating back to at least 1455, when it first appeared in historical records of the area, it was reconstructed in 1776, only to be struck by lightning in the late 19th century. Due to the damage sustained the church was torn down and a new one was built in its place, the charming architectural gem with a bell tower that stands in the center of Novalja today.
It is a mix of architectural styles, with the most prominent parts - the main altar of St. Katherine, and the side altars of The Scared Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Lourdes respectively - made in the late baroque style. While this sacral art is worthy of appreciation, the Church itself is anything but sombre - it will provide a lovely spiritual oasis for all its visitors, tourists and locals alike, and a charming place to rest outdoors in the shade of the palm trees.
