The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, nicknamed The Little Church by the locals, stands on Novalja’s main square, in the very place where the town’s early-Christian basilica once stood.
Built during the 15th and 16th centuries, The Little Church had minor reconstructions done to it several times, most notably in the early 19th century, but great care had been taken to preserve the mosaic floor tiles of the basilica, which remain visible both inside and outside of the church building. Another impressive feature of this church is the painting of Our Lady that is said to have wept in the 16th century.
This curious mix of styles and features make The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary a place reserved for special occasions - the only church service taking place there is the May religious celebration in honour of Our Lady.
