The Church of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Church of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in the 14th century and later restored in 1518 and further in 1927. Its bell tower, famous for the stunning view of the Istrian peninsula that spreads from its top, was built in 1904 and is 32 meters tall.

The church is best known for a 1948 discovery of a stone figure monument known as a stone repository, made by the sculptor Benko of Socherga. The exact date he made the sculpture isn’t known, but it was made in the Gothic style and the Glagolitic inscription on it has been dated to 1463. Another important discovery inside the church is the stone baptistery with a Glagolitic inscription that dates it to 1552.

Nowadays, the church functions as a parish church with religious services held on a regular basis."
