Opatija market

Namely, at the end of the 19th century, at a time when Opatija's tourism was booming, the population's need for a supply of fresh food increased sharply, so the construction of a new Opatija market was a priority. Today's building and the space you see were built by Francesco Matiassi's company in 1898, and its function has remained unchanged from the very beginning, and in 1907 a fish market was added. With its architecture, this market has fitted in nicely with the new modern environment. At the same time, the new market provided the population of Opatija with an additional opportunity to sell their own products, and this tradition has continued to this day: here on the Opatija gloom you can still buy fruits and vegetables grown in the gardens of Opatija and honey, cheese and other local products. , and fresh Adriatic fish in the fish market.
