Marine archaeological zone of the islands of Vis, Biševo, Brusnik and Svetac is the area with the highest concentration of historical and archaeological findings in the Adriatic.

Due to the excellent geographical position of the island of Vis, its waters were the intersection of historical waterways and military operations from prehistoric times to the end of World War II. Within the archaeological marine zone, there are several underwater archaeological sites listed the Register of Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Croatia, and many of them can be visited as a part of underwater tours organized by various Vis tourist agencies. In addition to the already discovered and registered archaeological sites, there is a strong possibility more sites have not yet been discovered.

Data pertaining to the Vis underwater sites are obtained not only through official and organized research, but also by independent divers and very often fishermen.
