Fort Wellington is one of the forts built by the British Royal Navy in the 19th century, as a part of their efforts to fortify the island in case of combat. It was named after the famous Duke of Wellington who won the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 and built on the eastern side of the Vis port, opposite Fort George. The remains point that it was a circular-shaped fort with loopholes for observation and shooting, which was the standard way of fort-building at the time.

It is located on top of St. George’s Hill so the view from it is rather stunning, and the visit will make a nice field trip, especially if you are fond of hiking.
