The Croatian Street of Fame project was launched at the end of 2005 by the public relations agency Apriori komunikacije with the aim of symbolically rewarding people who have contributed to the promotion of Croatia in the world through their sports, scientific, cultural or artistic work.

Potential laureates are nominated by the Nominations Commission, an independent project body made up of prominent public figures. Readers of media patrons vote for the nominees, and one living and one deceased person with the most votes becomes the laureate and winner of his star in the Croatian Street of Fame in Opatija.
