Church of the Mother of God

The late Gothic Church of the Mother of God, which dominates Pazin Square, was built on the right side of the City Gate by Master Dento in 1425 by order of the local peasant-nobleman Petar Berachich. This fact testifies that in the Middle Ages there was a privileged class that had money to build churches, but also obscene buildings like Solomon's place. The inner east wall of the church is covered along its entire length by a large wall painting depicting the Adoration of the Magi, dating from the same period. Many would wonder what the nails nailed between the blocks of the outer wall of this beautiful church mean. Legend has it that in time, on the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, childless women will nail their nails believing that they will conceive by Divine Mercy.
