Zavizan is one of the most famous sites in the Northern Velebit National Park. Here at 1595 meters above sea level are located the Mountain Lodge Zavizan and the oldest high-altitude meteorological station in Croatia.The meteorological station Zavizan was founded in 1953 and is very important for meteorological observations because the maritime and continental climates clash in this part of Velebit.The Zavizan mountain lodge was built in 1953, on the site of the former Krajach house. The home is open to visitors even in the winter months. The lodge has five rooms with 40 beds for hikers and travelers. Only members of the mountaineering association can order or prepare their own food and drinks.Zavizan offers a beautiful view of the sea and islands in front of Velebit, and in the immediate vicinity is the Velebit Botanical Garden.
