The old stone town of Umag offers a first-hand view of the rich history of Umag, from ancient times to the modern period. The beauty of this destination was recognized by rich Roman nobles who chose this part of Istria as the perfect place for their summer houses and holiday homes. The departure of the Romans was followed by a rather turbulent and unstable period - the city passed from the hands of one ruler to the hands of another for centuries, so that buildings from late antiquity and the early Middle Ages were completely destroyed. The present historical core inherited the urban structure of the Middle Ages. There are many reminders of that time: the remains of walls, Venetian villas and above all picturesque narrow streets. The one that is best preserved is also the oldest - the western tower where the Museum is located today, the custodian of a valuable collection of archaeological artifacts found on the site of the city.If you want to take a break from sightseeing, you must visit one of the traditional Istrian taverns, where you will find various types of traditional fish and meat dishes, as well as quality local wines and olive oils. Stroll through these charming narrow streets and magnificent paved squares and discover the rich historical and cultural heritage of this old town of Umag.

Umag has a very long promenade with a beautiful park on one side and the sea on the other. Restaurants are also for every taste. The old town is not very big, but there is where to go. Parks and beaches begin right behind Umag, so if you stop there for a rest, you can even do without a car.

For the third year now we have been renting an apartment in Umag for the whole summer. The prices are very affordable, the sea is close. Convenient for exploring the whole of Istria

It was my first time visiting Umag City but I could easily spot a big beautiful stadium on my tour around the city. This place is so gorgeous and clean. I would plan to be back during the December holiday.
