The archeological site of Vuchedol is located along the bank of the Danube, 5 kilometers downstream from Vukovar, and is one of the most important sites of the Eneolithic. Vuchedol was first inhabited around 6000 BC, at the time of the first European farmers. The time between 3000-2200 BC is the most intense period of its existence. In its full swing, the Vuchedol culture spread over a large area seven hundred kilometers wide, including ten today's European countries: Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Albania. Material culture, in which ceramic production stands out, with its outstanding technological quality and aesthetic values, speaks of a highly developed civilization. Vuchedol ceramics attracts attention with its perfect harmony of form and decoration. The most famous ceramic vessel is the Vuchedol Dove, a cult vessel in the shape of a bird, richly decorated with inlays, which was found in 1938. The Vuchedol Orion, which is considered to be the oldest European calendar, also belongs to the Vuchedol culture.
