The beautiful church of St. Rocco, located right at the entrance to the old town of Umag, was built in the 16th century after the devastating plagues in the region. Sv. Rok or Rocco is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church who lived in 14th century France and contracted the plague twice. He is revered as a protector against plague and infectious diseases in general.
Today, the church is an important historical landmark where oil paintings adorning the wooden ceiling from the 18th century can be seen. Another artistic landmark from the 16th century is the parish church of the Annunciation, located in the central town square of Sloboda. Inside you will find five 17th-century marble altars built in the Venetian style, relics of the holy church and 18th-century reliefs.
