The Church of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows

Built in 1759 this church is the youngest of Komizha’s churches. It was built by one of the most famous builders in the region at the time, Ivan Petrasich, at the request of the then pastor Mihovil Milinkovich. The reason for building a new church seems to have been the pressing need to be able to attend to the needs of parishioners living in that area, since all other churches at the time were too far.

The front facade of this church was built in the late Baroque style. Unlike the rest of the churches in the area the front isn’t facing the west. This is because it was built in between the already existing residential houses that dictated its floor plan.

The marble altar inside the church is adorned with the painting of Our Lady of Sorrows while the paintings of St. Jerome and the Madonna can be seen embellishing the walls. Unlike a lot of old churches in Dalmatia, mass and religious services take place here on a regular basis.
