The Natural History Museum in Rijeka was founded in 1946, and its exhibition and rich collections were housed in the family villa of Count Negroni from 1925. Today, the Natural History Museum of Rijeka operates as a scientific and educational institution and is the only one engaged in biological and ecological research of the sea in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. The museum takes care of a total of 29 collections with approximately 90,000 museum objects and exhibits. In 2005, the Coastal Botanical Garden was arranged in the vicinity of the Museum, in which the most common plant species of this area are presented. The Botanical Garden is also equipped with a space for a pleasant stay of visitors and educational activities.
